Rhythms for Healing

Last weekend I was blessed to travel to Sedona, AZ and be immersed in the Rhythms for Healing Facilitator Course.

The second I heard the drum, I felt it's resonance deep into my soul, like I had been yearning for it my entire life.

I had no clue. Isn't that the case for lots of experiences you've had too?

No clue an experience would be so healing or loving or touch you in a way so deeply

And it happened because you said yes.

The leader, Christine Stevens challenged us to play our drum as soon as we could after the training.

So, I said yes, and on Tuesday morning, I greeted the day with 20+ healthcare workers in the operating room of a local hospital.

I felt vulnerable, I mean, I literally picked up my drum for the first time over the weekend... who was I to bring this to them? I'm a newbie.

They were called to the beat

And yet, they too were called to the beat, to rediscover their inner drum, and found a willingness be in their strong, able and wise bodies, with me. We paused, if only for a moment, with each other.

On the way out, a man stopped me to chat about the death of his mother and how the beat allowed him to access her. We cried.

In the hall, a lady asks, what was I carrying? We played. In the elevator, a man asked, what was I doing with a drum, I invited him to play it. We laughed.

My next stop was at a monthly gathering called Tranquil Tuesdays for Tucson Nurse Wellbeing, we learned about how to access our body's inner wisdom with somatic experiencing. And then the beat took us. We swayed and we became grounded.

We connected and looked to the possibilities for healing

The next encounter, was a Nurse Manager meeting, first time I've met them. My drum said yes. And so did they. We connected and looked to the possibilities for healing.

And then off to the Child Life Specialists, who reminded me to keep on playing with joy. We rocked, and felt connected to the rhythm of a baby being soothed.

Yes, I'll keep playing

Yes, I'll keep playing. How about you? What are you saying yes to?

You are loved,
